The Maya Binary Project File, or MB for short, is an Autodesk propriety file format used to store data for Autodesk Maya 3D computer animation software. Maya files are used to store scenes created with the software configurations, materials, shaders, lighting, deformers, animations and other interactive 3D components.
MB files act as project containers for all user created elements in a Maya scene and are saved in a proprietary binary format which is usually incompatible with other 3D animation software. The only way to open these files are through the Maya application or by using a file converter which will convert them to OBJ, FBX, Collada or other common formats.

It is possible that an application that supports MB files is not associated with such files. In such case, the program should by manually associated with MB files (right-click on the file icon → Properties → General Tab → In submenu "Open with" and click on "Change" button. System will display a list of suggested programs that support MB files. Choose the application by checking the box "Always use the selected application to open this kind of files". System will store this information in its registry and use it to open MB files with the selected program.
File association for MB files can be edited manually by editing appropriate entry in Windows System Registry. However, it is discouraged as it may introduce errors to registry if not done properly and may even damage the system.
