What is a(n) SIT file?
The SIT (StuffIt Archive) format is a type of lossless data-compression file used for compressing and archiving multiple files into a single archive. The format was developed and maintained by the software developer Allume Systems, which later became Smith Micro. It can often be identified by its .sit file extension.
SIT archives usually produce smaller file sizes than that of their original files, making them ideal for saving on storage space or long-term archiving. Modern SIT formats include optional features such as password protection and compression algorithms. How to open SIT file?
There could be multiple reasons for which the system does not support given file. In the case of SIT extension, it is probable that none of the installed programs support given file type. Therefore, user should undertake the following steps
Step 1: Install a program that supports SIT files
If an application that supports SIT files is installed on user’s system, but is not used to open such files by default, right-click on the file icon and choose "Open with" option from the menu.
