What is a(n) SET file?

SET files are data files associated with the DOS configuration program SETUP. These files contain variables and settings used by computers running on the MS-DOS operating system. They store a variety of user-defined settings, such as BIOS data, TSRs (Terminate and Stay Resident applications), and network configurations. SET files are also used to store user environment data, software application configuration settings, and system stability data.

SET files may be opened with text editor programs such as Notepad, however they may need to be decompiled in order to be read correctly and parse their content. Alternatively, some programs may also have their own built-in environment to enable users to read SET files more easily.
