What is a(n) SCRATCH file?

SCRATCH (Scratch Project Format) is an educational coding environment developed by the MIT Media Lab. It provides a graphical drag-and-drop coding interface and uses its own language, Squeak, to create interactive stories, games, and animations. Files in the SCRATCH format store projects in human-readable text files. SCRATCH files are used for coding projects and can be edited with a basic text editor.

The SCRATCH file commonly stores settings, resources, and instructions to create codes.It is also used to save data when a project is being edited. How to open SCRATCH file?

There could be multiple reasons for which the system does not support given file. In the case of SCRATCH extension, it is probable that none of the installed programs support given file type. Therefore, user should undertake the following steps

Step 1: Install a program that supports SCRATCH files

If an application that supports SCRATCH files is installed on user’s system, but is not used to open such files by default, right-click on the file icon and choose "Open with" option from the menu. Next, select the proper application and check the "Always use the selected application to open this kind of files" box. The system will store this information in its registry and use the selected program to open files with SCRATCH extension by default.
