What is a(n) SCRATCH file?

SCRATCH (Scratch Project Format) is an educational coding environment developed by the MIT Media Lab. It provides a graphical drag-and-drop coding interface and uses its own language, Squeak, to create interactive stories, games, and animations. Files in the SCRATCH format store projects in human-readable text files. SCRATCH files are used for coding projects and can be edited with a basic text editor.

The SCRATCH file commonly stores settings, resources, and instructions to create codes. It is also used to save data when a project is being edited. SCRATCH files are recognized by their .sb extension and can be opened with applications like the Scratch app, Simple Effects Editor, or the Apple Numbers app.
