What is a(n) RPT file?

RPT (Crystal Reports Format) is a report definition file used by Crystal Reports, a popular Windows-based report generating program. It contains data definitions, report formatting and layout instructions, and formulas for calculating values in a report. It also stores user-defined functions, charts, variables, parameters, and database connections.

An RPT file can be generated from a wide variety of databases including Microsoft SQL Server, Access, Oracle Database, dBase, and many more. It is usually created as an output of the Crystal program and then used for printing or sharing information. It is also widely used in web-based reporting services.
