What is a(n) REV file?

REV (RAR Recovery Volume Set) is a proprietary file format used with RAR archives for repairing file data that has been lost or damaged. REV files, also known as recovery records, are generated when using the RAR archiving tool and often come in sets for maximum effectiveness.

REV files can repair corrupted and missing archive data by adding in the missing data from the recovery set. They are used to prevent data loss in transmission, especially when archives have been split into groups and need to be successfully pasted back together. REV files use a " redundant error correction algorithm" which helps to minimize the amount of data that is corrected or replaced.

Step 2. Verify whether REV files are associated with appropriate software

It is possible that an application that supports REV files is not associated with such files. In such case, the program should by manually associated with REV files (right-click on the file icon → Properties → General Tab → In submenu "Open with" and click on "Change" button.
