What is a(n) NOTEBOOK file?

NOTEBOOK (SMART Notebook Format) is a digital lesson plan file format created by SMART Technologies for use with their SMART Board interactive whiteboard systems. NOTEBOOK files contain interactive presentations, text, audio, video, animations, and more for creating a dynamic educational environment. NOTEBOOK files support integration with multimedia resources, allowing teachers to create engaging classes for their students.

NOTEBOOK files are created in the SMART Notebook software and are saved as .notebook files. They can be exported to other file formats such as PDF or PowerPoint PPTX by using the software's "Export" option. Modern versions of Windows include the Windows 10 SMART Notebook app for opening and viewing NOTEBOOK files.

How to open NOTEBOOK file?

There could be multiple reasons for which the system does not support given file. In the case of NOTEBOOK extension, it is probable that none of the installed programs support given file type. Therefore, user should undertake the following steps

Step 1: Install a program that supports NOTEBOOK files

If an application that supports NOTEBOOK files is installed on user’s system, but is not used to open such files by default, right-click on the file icon and choose "Open with" option from the menu.
