What is a(n) MSE file?

The MSE (3ds Max Encrypted MAXScript Format) is a file format that enables the encryption of 3ds Max MAXScript files, to protect their contents from unauthorized access or modification. It is created by the proprietary 3ds Max software from Autodesk for encrypting its own scripting language files. The MSE file contains all of the information from an associated MAXScript file, but is encrypted to prevent other programs or users from accessing it without permission.

Files in the MSE format can only be opened with 3ds Max. To open them, users must enter a password that has been set when the file was encrypted.
