What is a(n) LXF file?

The LXF (LEGO Digital Designer Model Format) is a file format specifically designed for storing three-dimensional models created using LEGO Digital Designer (LDD). These files contain information about the structure and shape of the model along with the size, quantity and color of the parts used. LXF files can be exported as PDF documents, STL files, images or as physical parts that can be ordered from LEGO.

The LXF file type is supported by many CAD programs and can be imported into programs such as Blender, Maya, 3Ds Max and Cinema 4D for further editing. Additionally, other developers have created 3rd party tools to convert LXF files to formats such as POV-Ray for creating animations.
