What is a(n) CAM file?
CAM (Gerber CAM Job Format) is a type of prototyping and production file used in computer-aided manufacturing systems. This type of file contains data related to the cutting, alignment and drilling operations performed on a production line. It is based on Gerber International File Format (GIFF), and is used to store instructions for CNC machines. Each CAM file contains several subpages that contain different types of data, such as tool paths, placement information, process parameters and layers.
CAM files are often exported from CAD programs such as Altium Designer, Autodesk Eagle and KeyCreator, and can be sent to machines for automated creation and manufacturing of printed circuit boards, drill holes, plastic parts and molds.
